The handling of departing baggage at Helsinki Airport is congested due to a significant disruption in the baggage distribution system on Thursday, October 3, 2024.

There is an IT malfunction in the baggage conveyor system that started around 4 AM. Currently, there is a significant delay in baggage handling, causing a slowdown in check-in and resulting in some baggage missing flights. A back-up system has been put in place at the airport to ensure that some luggage arrives on time. We are doing our best to resolve the situation. Unfortunately, the duration of the malfunction is not yet known.

This situation affects all departing passengers with checked baggage. We recommend packing all essential items, such as medications, in your carry-on luggage according to carry-on regulations. Airlines are responsible for delivering checked baggage to their customers in all cases, also when a baggage has missed the flight. We ask passengers to contact their own airline concerning missing baggage.

If you are travelling with only carry-on luggage and you have done your check-in in advance, you can continue straight to the security control after arriving at the airport.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused to passengers by the baggage system malfunction.
