The winter holiday season begins in Finland. Helsinki Airport will be the busiest from Thursday afternoon to Monday morning, 13–17 February, and Lapland airports will be the busiest on the Saturdays 15 February and 22 February 2024.

The number of departing passengers at Helsinki Airport will be the largest in the morning between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. and in the afternoon between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., but during peak travel days, the terminal will be busy the whole day.

Helsinki Airport will have the largest number of arriving passengers from Thursday to Sunday, 20–23 February.

Lapland Airports in Rovaniemi, Kittilä, Ivalo, and Kuusamo will be busiest on the weekends, especially on Saturdays with the most departing and arriving flights. Please take into account the travel instructions also when departing from Finavia's other regional airports.

We recommend that passengers always keep an eye on their airline's communications and follow the airline's recommendation on when to come to the airport and any other instructions, such as packing instructions for special baggage.

  • Before going to the airport, use our search engine to check which items can be packed in hand baggage and which can go in checked baggage.
  • Flammable ski waxes and wax removers are not allowed at all on board an aircraft. Gases and lighter fluids for camping stoves are also prohibited. One piece of fire making equipment per passenger can be carried in the clothing worn by the passenger.
  • Products such as power banks and backup batteries may only be carried in hand baggage.
  • Liquids must be packed in 100 ml liquid containers. At Helsinki Airport, liquids can be left in hand baggage for scanning. At other Finavia's airports, liquids must be taken out of the bags and carried in a resealable plastic bag with a maximum capacity of one litre.
