"The taxi lanes at Oulu Airport were put out to tender for the first time in 2021, and the availability of taxis has increased thanks to the contracted companies," says Liisa Sallinen, Airport Manager of Oulu Airport at Finavia.
Separate lanes, located in front of the terminal's main entrance, are reserved for the cars of the contracted companies at Oulu and Rovaniemi airports. Non-contract taxis may use other parking areas in front of the airport.
The tendering does not deny other taxi companies the opportunity to pick up and drop off passengers at the airport. Passengers will continue to be free to choose the taxi company they wish to use.
With the contracts on the use of the taxi lanes, Finavia aims to ensure that the airports have taxis available according to flight schedules and that the service level of the taxis supports a good customer experience.
"The number of passengers at Rovaniemi Airport has increased considerably in recent years, with passengers from all over the world arriving at the airport, especially during the winter season. It's important that taxi operations at the airport are clear and provide a good experience for passengers," says Johan Juujärvi, Airport Manager of Rovaniemi Airport at Finavia.
Selection of the contracted companies
At several of its airports, Finavia has carried out tendering processes for the use of taxi lanes. The aim is to make sure that taxis are also available during quieter times of the day. The tendering criteria included the ability to offer a good level of service and the ability to ensure that taxis are available at the airport according to the schedules of scheduled flights. In addition, contract taxis are required to, for example, have a price list that is clearly visible to customers.
Finavia did not include the customer prices of taxis in the tendering process. Instead, the taxi companies will be responsible for their own pricing. The contracts that have now been made will enter into force gradually. At Oulu Airport, Mankkaan taksi Oy (FixuTaksi and Kovanen) will use taxi lane 3 from 1 June 2025. Oulun Aluetaksi Oy will use taxi lanes 1 and 2 from 1 January 2026. At Rovaniemi Airport, the new contracts will enter into force on 1 October 2025. Starting from that day, Rovaniemen Aluetaksi Oy will use the airport's taxi lane 1, Lähitaksi Oy will use taxi lane 2 and Menevä Oy will use taxi lane 3.
