Responsibility
Finavia has a wide range of different and unique tasks that are carried out in the airport environment. We invest in career development and encourage Finavia employees to broaden their competence through job rotation.

Anne Järvinen, a Maintenance Specialist at Finavia, started work as a maintenance professional at Helsinki Airport in 2011. After completing a specialist vocational qualification in technology and a further qualification as an earthworks technician while working, Anne worked as an airport maintenance supervisor for a few years, from which she moved to her current specialist position.

"At Finavia, I am responsible for things such as carrying out tendering processes for maintenance supplies, the deployment of new systems, instructions and training, and the development of working methods. In my opinion, it is particularly important that I know what maintenance work is in practice," Järvinen says.

Thanks to job rotation, Järvinen has been able to see different sides of airport maintenance.

"The airport environment is unique and the personnel have a great deal of potential: there are knowledge and skills that are difficult to acquire in other environments. This industry is very dear to me, and I am grateful that my employer has made it possible for me to build my career around maintenance."

From a maintenance all-rounder to a supervisor and a manager

Jesse Miettunen, who works as a Maintenance Manager at Rovaniemi Airport, started his career at Finavia as a maintenance all-rounder at Kemi-Tornio Airport in 2012. Later, he worked as a maintenance supervisor at Kemi-Tornio before moving on to his current position.

"As a manager, I am responsible for a team of about 17 permanent employees, managing the maintenance of Rovaniemi Airport's air traffic area and the rescue services. In winter, our team grows as seasonal employees start work," Miettunen says.

Miettunen feels that career development and having the opportunity to try out new tasks increase commitment to work.

"When you try new things, your mind stays fresh. Job rotation brings something new to your job and allows you to develop your competence. Interesting tasks also keep competent employees from leaving the company. After all, everyone builds their own kind of career path."

"As I’ve been able to progress to more challenging tasks at Finavia, I’ve been able to look at maintenance work from many different perspectives. It’s an advantage, as it has allowed me to form a comprehensive overview of the work," Miettunen says.
