During the summer months, there are direct flights from Helsinki Airport to about 130 destinations. Read our tips for a smooth journey.
Check the new liquid limits for security control
Helsinki Airport’s security control technology was replaced about a year ago. Two litres of liquids per passenger can now be taken through security control, and liquids do not have to be taken out of the bag for the X-ray screening.
At Helsinki Airport, electronic devices may also be left in the bag during security control.
When travelling from Finavia's regional airports, the liquid limit is one litre packed in a resealable and transparent plastic bag. Liquids must be packed in 100 ml containers.
Take your passport with you for a long-haul flight
If you are travelling from Finland to a non-Schengen country – such as the United Kingdom, the United States or an Asian country – you must pass through border control at the airport. Please remember to bring a valid passport with you for your trip.
See how to pass through border control. If you have a Finnish passport, you can use an automated border control gate.
Check the packing instructions for your baggage
Before coming to the airport, please make sure that your bags are packed properly. You can use Finavia’s search engine to find packing instructions for checked and hand baggage.
Please keep in mind that items such as gas containers for camping stoves and lighter fluids are prohibited on board. One piece of fire-making equipment per passenger can be packed in hand baggage or carried in the clothing worn by the passenger. In addition, products such as power banks and spare batteries must be carried in hand baggage.
Leave time for check-in, security control and border control
We recommend arriving at Helsinki Airport well before your flight. You should leave enough time for parking, check-in and security control.
Since August is a busy month for travel to non-Schengen countries, please make sure that you also leave enough time for border control at the airport.
If you arrive at the airport in good time, you can enjoy the atmosphere of the departure area and visit the airport's new restaurants and shops. The number of restaurants at Helsinki Airport has doubled.
Make your journey smoother by pre-booking parking in front of the terminal and subscribing to the free MyFlight service, which provides you with information about the airport, the departure gate and the dining and shopping options.
