Lufthansa launched a direct route from Oulu to Munich, Germany, on 16 December 2023. At the airport, the first flight was met with a selection of Christmas foods, an applauding audience and a performance by one of the best air guitarists in the world.
The route will be flown twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, until 30 March 2024. Flights can now be booked through the Lufthansa website.
“We have been waiting for this route: it’s great news for both our airport and the entire Oulu region. Munich Airport is a hub airport offering a wide range of onward connections to destinations around the world. Munich is also a hub for business, so in addition to leisure travel, the route is also very important for local businesses. The route will improve Finland’s accessibility, which we are actively working to promote,” says Petri Vuori , Finavia’s Senior Vice President responsible for route development.

The Lufthansa Group provides a wide range of routes from Finland to the rest of the world
This winter, Lufthansa will also fly to Munich from Kittilä and Helsinki. In addition, the airline flies from Kuusamo, Ivalo and Helsinki airports to Frankfurt.
Lufthansa Group members Eurowings, Austrian Airlines and Edelweiss Air are also bringing new routes to Finavia airports this winter. In December–January, Eurowings will open routes from Rovaniemi to Berlin and from Ivalo and Kuusamo to Düsseldorf. The airline will also resume flying its last winter season’s routes from Rovaniemi and Kittilä airports to Düsseldorf and continue its year-round flights from Helsinki Airport to Berlin.
Austrian Airlines, on the other hand, started flying from Rovaniemi to Vienna at the beginning of December. Edelweiss Air will open new routes from Zürich to Kuusamo and Ivalo in February 2024.
