“We are happy to be able to present these new and beautiful facilities to passengers. The extension of Terminal 2 has already received numerous awards, and we hope that it will make travel even smoother and more straightforward,” says Ulla Lettijeff, Finavia’s Helsinki Airport Executive Director.
The traffic arrangements at Helsinki Airport became easier and more permanent on 1 December 2021, when it became possible to drive cars and taxis in front of the main doors to drop off passengers.
A new parking hall, bus station and taxi station have been completed next to Terminal 2. Walking distances are now shorter than before and passengers can reach every place without needing to go outside. There is also a new bicycle parking area.
Those who come to pick up passengers in their own car are recommended to park in the new short-term parking area, which is located right in front of Terminal 2.
The new parking hall has two areas: P1 Premium and P2. Both parking areas provide direct access to Terminal 2 by lift. Finavia’s other parking areas are still open as usual.
For pet owners, there is a new outdoor area between the arrivals hall and the bus station, where dogs and cats can be walked.
Departing and arriving through Terminal 2
Starting from the beginning of December, passengers using Terminal 2 will pass through the new departures hall to the current check-in and security control area. New facilities for check-in and state-of-the-art security control will open just before next summer.
Passengers arriving in Finland will enter the new central arrivals hall, where people waiting for them can come to meet them. Baggage is picked up from halls 2A and 2B until 2023, when a new central baggage claim hall will open at the airport.
New shops and services – such as Subway, Runway Bar, Excess Baggage and Forex – opened in the arrivals hall at the beginning of December. The long-time favourites Alepa and R-Kioski are open around the clock.
“All shops and services can be easily accessed by passengers and other visitors to the airport,” says Nora Immonen, Finavia’s Director of Commercial Services at Helsinki Airport.
Burger King, Helsinki Market, Espresso House and Moomin Shop will also serve customers in the arrivals hall. In spring 2022, the offering will increase further as the food court with a wide range of restaurants and the luxurious Plaza Premium Lounge open.
“The restaurants have invested in flavours, service speed and variety. You can grab food quickly on the go or take your time enjoying it,” says Immonen.
Terminal 1 open as usual
“Terminal 1 is in normal use for now. There will be no changes for passengers using the terminal,” says Lettijeff.
Taxis and cars can drop off customers departing from Terminal 1 in front of the entrance. The nearest parking hall to Terminal 1 is the P3 parking hall, which is located right next to the terminal. Passengers can get to the train station through a connecting corridor. The bus station is located next to Terminal 2.
The alteration and deployment work of Terminal 2 will continue until everything is ready in 2023. At the same time, the largest hotel in Finland is being built in front of the terminal.
“The opening of Terminal 2 is already a big step. Upon completion, Helsinki Airport will offer a wide and comprehensive range of services that will make travel easier and more streamlined,” says Lettijeff.
