According to the weather forecast, winds are favourable. Therefore, based on the current estimation, snowfall should not have significant effects on air traffic.
“Finavia’s maintenance is fully prepared and ready to keep the runways clear of snow. We believe that air traffic will operate rather smoothly regardless of snowfall,” says Heini Noronen-Juhola, Vice President, Finavia.
However, if there is freezing fog on Tuesday, airplane engines must be defrosted between flights. That would delay air traffic significantly. In this case, the de-icing operations would also be busy, since ice removal must be done in two stages.
“In winter, weather conditions around zero degrees when freezing and warmer temperatures alternate are especially challenging for the airline and airport operators. However, we have good winter skills in Finland,” says Noronen-Juhola.
Many airports abroad are forced to close their airports and cancel flights for several days in challenging winter conditions, whereas in Finland we manage to run our airports even under extreme conditions. There will naturally be some delays, in order to ensure safe flying. We apologise for possible inconvenience caused to the passengers.
Arrivals and departures in real time are available on the Finavia website.
