Two local shops from Oulu specialising in design and handicrafts have joined forces and opened a new pop-up at Oulu Airport. Taito Shop and Non Boutique are both locally known establishments that serve customers at their shops in Oulu city centre all year round.
“The idea that led to the opening of the pop-up came from Non Boutique’s founder Tiina Meriläinen, who initially contacted us about opening another branch at the airport. It was then developed further, and along the way Taito Shop showed interested in joining in as well. Eventually, we decided to test out a pop-up shop for the coming Christmas season. This is the first pop-up at our airport, and we are very excited about the store concept,” says Liisa Sallinen, Manager of Oulu Airport.
Non <3 Taito Shop has a selection of products from over 30 Finnish brands – from jewellery and ceramics to artisanal chocolate and tar-flavoured candy. The offering also includes Finnish design classics such as Vuokko bags and Palmroth shoes.
The shop carries local specialities such as Lovi’s birch veneer characters and Ostrobothnian mittens and wool socks. For handicraft enthusiasts, there are supply bundles with materials and full instructions for knitting wool socks based on local traditions, for example.
“We have received a lot of feedback from our customers requesting even more local products to be made available at Oulu Airport. The customers of Non Boutique and Taito, meanwhile, have often suggested that a shop like this would be in high demand at the airport. The new pop-up answers both wishes perfectly,” Sallinen says.
The store also features a service that is designed to help passengers’ packing challenges at the airport.
“It is possible to pick up purchases from Non Boutique’s or Taito Shop’s store in the city centre at a later time. The products can also be sent to any location in Finland via post. So if you’re catching a flight from Oulu, you don’t have to worry about having to carry your new products with you onboard,” adds Sallinen.
Non <3 Taito Shop at Oulu Airport is open from Monday to Friday from 7 am to 10 am and 3 pm to 7 pm, and on Sundays from 2 pm to 5:30 pm, until December 20th, 2019.
