Finavia continues its long-term project to improve Tampere Airport. The airport has gone through a EUR 15 million development project this summer that aims to increase the airport’s capacity and ensure safe traffic even as the volume of flights grows.
“We are very happy about the launch of the new route. Spanish destinations are a long-time favourite among Finns, and the timing of the route launch will surely please especially those who are planning to travel during their autumn break,” says Mari Nurminen, Vice President, Central Finland Airports at Finavia.
In 2017, a little over 1,220,000 passengers travelled to Spain from Finavia’s airports. 155,000 of those passengers flew to Malaga. Within the last five years, the number of passengers to Spain has increased every year—last year by 14 per cent.
“An ever-increasing number of passengers in the Tampere region are choosing to fly with SAS. In addition to the new direct Tampere–Malaga flight connection, we also operate up to four flights every day from Tampere to Stockholm, which has very good connections to destinations around the globe,” says Anders Wahlström, Head of Sales Sweden & Finland at SAS.
The route will be operated on Saturdays with SAS’s environmentally effective Airbus 320neo aircraft. The flight from Malaga to Tampere departed at 10:55 a.m. local time, and the return flight to Malaga departed on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Finnish time.
