From cold drinking water to unlimited fast Wi-Fi, sometimes the best pre-departure extras are offered at absolutely no cost.

Believe it or not, some of the best perks at Helsinki Airport are the ones you can get just by showing up and checking in. Here’s a rundown of excellent extras that are available to passengers free of charge.

1. Cold drinking water

Water is essential to flying and you definitely won’t go thirsty at Helsinki Airport. A total of 12 washrooms in the main traffic areas have cold water taps where passengers can refill their empty water bottles with drinking water at no cost. These taps have been installed in six men’s washrooms and six ladies’ washrooms near Gates 12–13, 21, 26, 29 and 32.

The Non-Schengen gate area (Gates 53, 54, and 55) in the new South Pier extension will be furnished with hot and cold water automats.

2. Clear zip bags for security check

Liquids and gels in individual containers of max. 100 ml must be packed in a single transparent and resealable plastic bag with a capacity of no more than 1 liter. These clear zip bags are available at the security check area.

3. Unlimited fast Wi-Fi

Free Wi-Fi is provided for all passengers at the airport. At 100Mbs, the connection is fast and it’s easy to use for an unlimited amount of time.

4. Charging points for mobile phones

Helsinki Airport has several USB charging stations and power sockets that passengers can use to plug in their electronic devices.

5. Charging points for electric vehicles

The new extension of Helsinki Airport’s P5 parking garage has 32 electric car charging stations. Four charging points can be found in P1.

6. Kainuu Lounge and Book Swap

Want to stretch your legs before a trip? Named after and decorated in the spirit of the Kainuu region of Finland, the Kainuu Lounge (Gate 31) is open to all passengers. It’s a great place to relax and wait for your flight while listening to the sounds of the forest.

The Book Swap station can also be found here. Passengers can pick up books to read for free. You can also leave books for fellow travellers to enjoy.
