As the charging points can be locked, passengers no longer need to stay and wait while charging their devices.
According to Sini Kaikkonen, Customer Experience Champion at Finavia’s Service Development Unit, the new service is designed to free up more time for passengers and to make the airport experience less hurried.
“At its best, the airport experience can be easy and stress-free. When you have a bit more time on your hands, you can use it to run any last minute errands, have a coffee or do some shopping,” Kaikkonen says.
The pilot was launched earlier this autumn and forms part of Finavia’s service development strategy, which aims to create new and innovative services to improve the airport customer experience.
The service will run on a trial basis for three months and is due to conclude at the end of the year. The uptake and popularity of the service will be monitored during this time. The charging service and lockers are provided free of charge.
The lockers are fitted with iPhone, Android and Windows chargers and can be found at Gates 13, 29 and 34. Each of the three units is fitted with nine charging stations, which means that there are a total of 27 points currently available at the airport.
The charging stations are provided by Vivotech and form part of a nationwide charging network.
At Helsinki Airport, passengers can also charge their electronic devices using
- power sockets provided in waiting areas
- power sockets provided in cafes and restaurants
- the Fortum recharging units available in a number of locations within the terminal
- the Suvanto work stations
- the facilities provided in airline lounges.
