The new route creates a pathway for rapid knowledge transfers and offers an opportunity for increased cooperation between universities and research institutions.
- The ticket pre-sale with more than 200 passanger tickets sold during the first month shows that this new inter-regional route across the borders of Finland, Sweden and Norway interests many and is seen as necessary, says the head of marketing at BusinessOulu Pauliina Pikkujämsä.
In order for the route to continue even after the so called guarantee period, it is important to market the cities of Oulu, Luleå and Tromsø and the surrounding regions as active tourism destinations.
- It feels great to play a part in improving the mobility between the university cities in the North. In addition to the business aspect, the route provides new opportunities for travel as well. At the end of last year, Oulu Airport underwent some major changes, so now it feels great to watch the first flight depart from the updated terminal, says Airport Manager Liisa Sallinen from Finavia.
From Oulu to Luleå and Tromsø five time a week
The new connection Arctic Airlink flies the route five times per week: on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. Flight duration from Oulu to Luleå is 40 minutes and from Luleå to Tromsø one hour and 20 minutes.
Arctic Airlink offers also excellent connecting flights out from Oulu, Luleå and Tromsø to other important destinations. The flight is operated by NextJet who uses Saab 340 aircraft with 33 passanger seats.
On Friday January 10th, Arctic Airlink’s new route was nominated as the 77th act in the ”100 Acts from Oulu” programme, which aims at making Oulu an even better place to live.
