The service is Finavia's first to utilise online payment technology. The service allows customers to reserve a parking spot and pay for it using a credit card or an online banking service.
"The parking reservation service is part of Finavia's digital services strategy and the logical next step in the development of our updated online service", says Airport Director Ville Haapasaari of Finavia.
The purpose of the service is to make travelling easier. Travellers no longer need to consider parking alternatives when they arrive at the airport, as they can reserve a suitable spot in advance.
Haapasaari encourages holiday travellers, among others, to make use of Finavia's new online store. A parking spot can be reserved even in holiday seasons, when the parking services are in high demand.
Advance reservations have been possible since May. The first four months have already shown that the service is necessary and popular.
"Over the summer we have received dozens of reservations per day. The popularity of the service has exceeded our expectations ever since the launch phase", says Haapasaari.
Just like Finavia's website, the online parking reservation system is responsive. This means that the service can be used through desktop computers, tablets and smartphones.
Reservations are possible for parking areas P1, P3, P4a and P4b.
How to use the online reservation system
When the parking spot has been booked and paid for online, a QR code is sent to their e-mail and mobile phone. The QR code provides access to the parking area.
When returning from the trip, the parking slip is used to open the gate.
The service can be accessed through Finavia's website or directly at https://pysakointi.helsinki-vantaa.fi. Parking spots can also be reserved through Helsinki Airport's smartphone apps.
Ongoing development of new electronic services
"The online parking reservation service, complete with the payment system, is our first major step towards electronic business and taking our customer processes digital”, Haapasaari says.
In the near future, the goal is to introduce more online services. Examples include statement requests related to erecting obstacles to flight, and order and payment services for recreational aviators' season cards.
