Finavia, in collaboration with the entire airport community, is preparing to keep Helsinki Airport operational despite the challenging weather conditions.
Finavia has prepared well for challenging weather conditions in conjunction with companies operating at the airport. However, delays may still occur if the capacity of runways is reduced due to weather conditions such as heavy snowfall and wind or poor visibility.
Snow is also expected at other airports in Northern Europe, so incoming flights may be delayed, which will also affect the schedules of outgoing flights from Helsinki Airport. The weather front arriving at Helsinki Airport has already had a significant impact on the operations of Oslo and Arlanda airports since Wednesday, 17th January.
Passengers are advised to prepare for schedule changes and to follow the instructions and information provided by their airline. Airlines are also responsible for inquiries regarding luggage.
Finavia is responsible for preventing runway and apron slipperiness, airlines for de-icing and engine thawing of aircraft, and air traffic control for possible runway restrictions for incoming and outgoing air traffic.
At Finavia’s airports, air traffic safety is never compromised in any situation. Careful and safe operation is the starting point for everything, even in challenging weather conditions.
