In July–August 2023, the airport company Finavia will renew the runway light system and the paving of the apron and taxiway at Kuusamo Airport. During the repair work, from 17 July to 15 August 2023, there will be a break in air traffic in Kuusamo. The investment totals EUR 2.5 million.

“I am very happy that we can invest in the development and maintenance of Kuusamo Airport's infrastructure this year. There is air traffic to Kuusamo all year round, as Lapland attracts tourists who come to admire the natural attractions in the area. Traditional Christmas traffic also brings a lot of passengers to the airport towards the end of the year,” says Sari Päivärinta, Kuusamo Airport Manager at Finavia.

Due to the renovation work, there will be a break in air traffic at Kuusamo Airport from 17 July to 15 August 2023. During the renovation, the runway lighting system will also be replaced. In order to save energy and increase energy efficiency, the existing lights will be replaced by LED lights.

“One of our sustainability goals at Finavia is to achieve zero emissions in our own operations, and this has also been taken into account here at Kuusamo Airport.”

Kuusamo Airport will serve airlines and passengers normally as soon as the repair work is completed, starting from 16 August 2023. During the renovation, the terminal building will be closed.

The renewed infrastructure supports the activity of airlines better and makes operating easier. It also helps with making things run smoother during the Christmas season in Lapland, which is important for Kuusamo Airport.
