Helsinki Airport’s hotel services have a great new addition as Scandic Helsinki Airport opened its doors on 13th of March 2018. The hotel is located right next to Terminal 2.
With its 150 rooms and nine conference rooms, plus a bar, restaurant, gym and sauna, the new Scandic adds significantly to the accommodation capacity and service offering of the airport area. The hotel wishes to serve all the people who utilise the airport as well as the people in the nearby area.
“Our doors are open for everyone. You do not need to be staying with us, but all passengers, airport employees and other passes-by are welcome to stop by at Scandic,” says Meri Palletvuori, Scandic Helsinki Airport hotel manager.
Located along a ‘light courtyard’
One of Scandic Helsinki Airport’s biggest assets is its location right next to Terminal 2, in the so-called Operation Centre that also houses Finavia’s permit services, airport police, a medical centre and private companies.
“It’s only a few hundred metres’ walk from the airport to the hotel,” Palletvuori says. “And the whole route is under a glass canopy, so you never have to get your feet wet.”
Palletvuori says there’s a special atmosphere to the hotel as it is also located along the well-lit inner courtyard of the operation centre.
“Customers can enter through the beautiful light courtyard and take the lift up to the third floor, where our modern facilities await,” describes Palletvuori.
Meeting room in a former jail cell
The hotel also serves business clients and offers meeting rooms in several different sizes.
“Our smaller meeting rooms have an interesting history, as they were renovated into rooms that previously served as jail cells for the airport police,” Palletvuori shares. “The rooms are decorated with different themes: one is a sauna, another has a Finnish forest theme and the third one has jail theme and is, in fact, called ‘cell’.”
In general, the hotel’s interior is decorated in a modern style with eye-catching details.
“All the spaces are unique. They have a lot of surprising details like Finnish design classics or special seating,” Palletvuori describes.
The growing airport attracts new business
According to Palletvuori, the quickly growing Helsinki Airport is a natural location for Scandic’s newest hotel.
“The airport area is an attractive business location for a hotel. Helsinki Airport’s passenger numbers are growing and there is demand for more accommodation. In addition, the hotel adds significantly to the meeting room capacity, enabling larger conferences in this area,” Palletvuori explains.
“I’ve worked in hotels right in the centre of Helsinki, but still, the international feeling at the airport is something truly special. I believe we will bring an interesting addition to the airport’s accommodation offering.”
