The Embraer 190 is a narrow-body, twin-engine jet airliner manufactured by Embraer. Headquartered in São José dos Campos, São Paulo, the Brazilian aerospace company is the third-largest airplane maker after Airbus and Boeing.
Formerly known as Empresa Brasileira de Aeronáutica, Embraer was founded in 1969.
1. Launched at the Paris Air Show in 1999, and entering production in 2002, the company’s E aircraft series has been commercially successful because of its safety and efficiency. The wings of the Embraer 190, for instance, are fitted with winglets that reduce drag and provide increased lift. The aircraft exceeds the noise and emission-related requirements prescribed by the International Civil Aviation Organization.
2. The first flight of the E190 was in March 2004. New York-based low-cost carrier JetBlue was the launch customer, taking its first delivery in 2005.
