For example, Finavia is planning to expand the apron to respond to the needs of growing and diversifying air traffic. At the same time, the runway, taxiway and apron would be repaved. Finavia is also planning to improve the lighting system and reduce the environmental load of the airport.
The final decision on these development investments will be made during winter.
If a positive decision is made as planned, the air traffic areas will be renovated in stages. As a result, a shorter runway could be used for take-offs and landings, and air traffic would be possible even during the renovations. During slower periods (17 July – 12 August 2018), the airport would be fully closed.
We will issue more news if a positive decision on the development investments is made.
In recent years, Finavia has invested roughly EUR 7.5 million in the development of Tampere-Pirkkala Airport. Previously, Finavia modernised public areas and services in terminals and carried out a significant environmental improvement project.
