Finavia has opened an electric car charging station for passengers at Kuopio Airport. The installation of charging stations at airports is part of Finavia’s environmental responsibility.

Kuopio Airport’s first charging station has now been installed and the charging of electric cars is included in the parking fee. The charging station is suitable for medium-speed charging.

“For us, it’s important that at the airport everything goes as easily and smoothly as possible. It’s great that we can now make travelling smoother for electric car drivers, too,” says Raija Niskanen, Finavia’s Airport Manager at Kuopio Airport.

The electric car charging station is located in the P1 parking area near the barriers at its exit. The charging station is easy to use but employees at the airport information desk are there to help users, if necessary.

Long-term work for the environment

Finavia’s goal is to constantly improve its energy efficiency. CO2 emissions generated by the company’s operations are thoroughly scrutinised and the aim is to adopt new low-carbon solutions. Finavia aims to make all its airports carbon neutral by 2020.

With its network of 21 airports, Finavia is one of the key players in the joint commitment of European airport operators to have 100 carbon neutral airports in Europe by 2030. The shared global target of the aviation industry is to halve the emissions generated by international air traffic by 2050, regardless of the growth of the industry.
