The members of many Finnish trade unions will organise an extensive work stoppage on Friday, 18 September. The strike will affect flights as well as public traffic connections and airport services. This page provides you with up-to-date information on the strike's impact on air traffic. The information will be continuously updated. Please check the latest information before departure.

Flight impact

Air traffic controllers, Finnair cabin crew and airports' ground handling staff will implement a work stoppage from 11am to 1pm. In addition, security checkpoints and apron transport will have less employees than usual.

To ensure fluent services at checkpoints and other service outlets, we kindly request passengers to arrive at Helsinki Airport considerably earlier than usual to all flights during the whole Friday.

Please also prepare for arrival and departure delays. Delays can be expected especially during the afternoon and the evening.

In regard to cancellations and schedule changes, please monitor communication by your airline or travel agent.

Finavia apologises for any inconvenience the strike may cause to passengers and will do everything it can to ensure that air traffic will be as smooth as possible during the protest. Finavia's air traffic control, security control and other services will be carried out by supervisors and with temporary arrangements.

Impact on public transportation to and from the airport

Public transport will be subject to the work stoppage on Friday. Passengers are kindly requested to use a taxi, a car, rental car or car pooling.

Finnair City Bus between Helsinki city centre and the airport will be less frequently available than usual. For more details, please visit Pohjolan liikenne website.

The Finnish Transport Agency advises drivers to prepare for a traffic volume peak in the Helsinki metropolitan area. We kindly request passengers to reserve enough time for the journey to the airport.

Bus traffic disruptions will be from 3am on Friday, 18 September to 3am on Saturday, 19 September. Please consult HSL for more information on Helsinki Airport buses.

There are two hotels at Helsinki Airport, and there are several hotels in the vicinity. Terminal gates 37 and 31 also have GoSleep sleep "tubes".

Impact on airport services
