Finavia has launched a new online service that travellers can use for booking a parking spot in the Helsinki Airport parking areas.

The service is Finavia's first to utilise online payment technology. The service allows the customer to reserve a parking spot and pay for it using a credit card or an online banking service.

“The service is part of Finavia's digital services strategy and the logical next step in the development of our new interactive online services,” says Airport Director Ville Haapasaari of Finavia.

The purpose of the service is to make travelling easier. The traveller no longer needs to consider parking alternatives when arriving at the airport; instead, a suitable spot can be confirmed in advance.

Haapasalo encourages holiday travellers, among others, to make use of Finavia's new online store. A parking spot can be reserved even in the hottest holiday season, when the parking services are in high demand.

How to use the online reservation system

Parking areas P1, P3, P4a and P4b are included in the online reservation system. You can book a spot up to six months in advance, or in the previous day. The maximum booking period is one month, and the minimum period is 24 hours.

The booking procedure is easy and intuitive. When the parking spot has been booked and paid for, the customer receives a QR code in his or her e-mail and mobile telephone. The QR code provides access to the parking area. When returning from the trip, the parking slip is used to open the gate.

The online parking reservation system is interactive. It can be used with a computer or a mobile device such as a tablet or smartphone.

Similarly to the entire Finavia web service, the online parking reservation system has also been optimised for search engines to make it easy to find. You can also locate the service using the site search function available on the Finavia website. The I'm Departing page of the Helsinki Airport website contains a link to the service.

Ongoing development of new electronic services

“The online parking reservation service, complete with the payment system, is our first major step towards electronic business and taking the customer processes online,” Haapasaari says.

Haapasaari also says that the next step will be to launch a digital service for the requests to comment flight obstacle issues, and to take the recreational aviators' season ticket orders and payments online
