The activity of the Barbadunga volcano has again risen and the Icelandic authorities have imposed flight restrictions in the immediate vicinity of the volcano. At the moment, the eruption does not affect air traffic in Finland.

The cloud of volcanic ash emitted by the volcano is estimated to reach at most the height of 1.5 kilometres. According to the forecast of international Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre (VAAC), the ash will not spread outside the immediate vicinity of the volcano in this situation and it will not affect air traffic except for locally around the volcano.

The Finnish Transport Safety Agency (Trafi) is monitoring the situation and will communicate more if necessary.
