Services for persons with disabilities and reduced mobility
We offer a free assistance service to persons with an intellectual disability, a visual impairment, hearing loss or reduced mobility as well as to the elderly and other passengers with limited mobility. You can receive assistance for getting around the airport around the clock.
Book the assistance service through your travel agent or airline when you book your flight, at least 48 hours before your flight departs. Please also report whether you have any assistive devices with you, such as a wheelchair or a breathing or oxygen device.
An assistant will help you get from an airport assistance call point to your seat on the plane. Please tell your assistant the best way to lift you or move you.
When you return from your trip, we will assist you from the plane to the terminal and from there to the parking area, bus stop, train station or taxi stand.
Do this when you travel
When you arrive at the airport, contact an assistant at an assistance call point.
At Helsinki Airport, there are several assistance call points where you can call an assistant. The assistance call points are located in the parking halls, in the outdoor parking area, in front of the terminal, in the check-in area and at the airport’s train station. See the locations of Helsinki Airport’s assistance call points on our website.
At Finavia’s regional airports, you can call an assistant at the check-in, except for the airports below.
- At Ivalo Airport, please report to the information desk.
- At Mariehamn and Vaasa airports, the assistance call point is located near the entrance.
- At Kemi-Tornio Airport, you can also call an assistant at the parking space for persons with reduced mobility.
Parking at Helsinki Airport
Cars with a parking card for persons with reduced mobility can be parked at the airport for free for a maximum of four hours. More detailed instructions for free parking can be found on our website.
When you park for more than four hours or go on a trip, please choose the most convenient parking space for you in terms of the location or price. Helsinki Airport has four parking halls and one outdoor parking area. Check the prices, locations and other parking information on our website.
Parking at Finavia’s regional airports
Check your airport’s website for information about parking with a parking card for persons with reduced mobility or submit your question by email.
Security control for assisted passengers
At Helsinki Airport, there is a dedicated security control line for persons with disabilities and reduced mobility. It is marked with a sign with the word “Assisted” on it.
Passengers who use a wheelchair or have other assistive devices are screened manually. The wheelchair control box should be detached and transported in hand baggage so that it is not lost or damaged during transport.
Passengers with a partial or full prosthesis or a cast will be screened using a special device. Please inform the security officer about your prosthesis or cast. In Finland, you do not have to present an orthopaedist’s certificate for a prosthesis, but such a certificate may be required abroad.
Guide dogs are also inspected.
See more information on what to do at security control and what items should be put in checked baggage and what can be put in hand baggage.
Further information and feedback about our services
There are wheelchairs and other mobility equipment available at the airport for passengers who have to hand over their own mobility device at check-in. A mobility device may also be requested by a passenger who feels that they need a mobility device in order to move about the terminal but does not require an assistant provided by the airport.
We can give you general information about assistance service by phone +358 800 120 700 (Helsinki airport, 24h).
You can give feedback on assistance services directly to the airline or to Finavia. If necessary, you may also contact the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom. The Finnish Transport and Communications Agency also provides additional information about the rights of passengers with disabilities and reduced mobility when travelling by air.
