"At Helsinki Airport, the intention is to establish restaurants and cafés focusing on both international and Finnish flavours. The goal is to open the restaurants operated by HMSHost during 2014–2016," says business director Anne Gullstén from Finavia.
Asian tourism market on the rise
Lentoposti.fi reported on its web site that according to calculations by HMS Host, the market for food and beverages is growing rapidly. Passenger volumes at Asian airports are expected to increase to three billion by 2020.
"In the next ten years, Asia will become the largest tourism market."
In Asia, this growth is driven by the increase in the number of middle-class citizens. In the next ten years, the Asian middle-class will increase by 1.4 billion people.
In 2009, the middle-class was numbered 1.8 billion, and the forecast for 2020 is 3.2 billion; for 2030, the forecast is 4.9 billion.
Higher incomes are resulting in an explosive growth in leisure travel, which is increasing traffic volumes and ticket prices. The world is changing, and new groups of people are shifting from just surviving to using their money in new ways.
HMS Host is a globally leading restaurant service provider for tourists. The company is owned by the World Duty Free Group, which was demerged from the Autogrill Group in October. The Group has 260 stores in 67 locations, 16 countries and four continents.
