Super winter at Lapland Airports
In 2016, the number of international travellers at the Kittilä Airport increased by nearly 30 percent.
In December, the number of travellers at Kittilä Airport made it the third busiest airport in Finland. As expected, the winter season of 2016–2017 is turning out to be a super winter for Lapland tourism and, in addition to the increasing number of travellers, the number of flight connections has also increased.
This season, there are direct scheduled flights to Kittilä from large European cities such as London, Manchester, Dusseldorf and Munich. Lapland is reached most comfortably by air. For example the flight from Helsinki to Kittilä takes only 90 minutes.
From airport to meeting room
Corporate and group travel is smoothly arranged through Kittilä Airport. Booking a VIP office gives you access to meeting facilities and meals as soon as your plane lands. You can even relax after the meeting in the sauna on the third floor of the terminal.
- Those with a VIP booking have their own security control lane giving direct access to the plane, Kittilä Airport Manager Kimmo Liukkonen at Finavia, points out.
The typical Lapland hut is called a kota, and a kota near the airport offers a wonderful venue for a group of up to 50 persons to spend their evening. Take a break from watching the northern lights as you grill sausage or make coffee on the open fire in the middle of the hut.
- Few airports can offer a place with an equally unique atmosphere, Kimmo Liukkonen muses.
Enjoy travelling
The restaurants at the gates offer a chance to catch your breath before your flight. Enjoy a sandwich, salad or hamburger under the reindeer antler chandeliers.
- We also have a gift shop next to the cafeteria for easy last minute souvenir shopping or just for browsing local products, Liukkonen adds.
Our free Wi-Fi helps you check emails or upload holiday photos onto social media. And relaxing in a rocking chair by the fireplace calms mind and body.
