”When I was in high school in my hometown Chengdu, the capital of southwestern China's Sichuan province, I used to watch Formula 1 races every weekend. Kimi Räikkönen was the best driver then – and so handsome too – that I became interested in Finland and Finnish people. I ended up applying to study logistics in Finland. I graduated from a Master’s program in Digital Service Design and Engineering at Aalto University. I use my spare time to learn coding.
In Spring 2016 I applied for a job as a service advisor at Helsinki Airport. I used to work in IT, but I wanted a job where I could be around people and practice my Finnish. As I also speak Mandarin Chinese and English, I can assist many passengers at the airport. Usually I am in the departure hall helping people with the check-in machines, or welcoming the Asian flights and advising people through passport control and security checks.
I feel good when I can help people, especially older Chinese tourists who are grateful to get service in a language they understand.
I’d like to stay in Finland for about five more years and find work as a user interface designer. In the end, my husband and I would like to settle in China, because both our parents are there. As an only child, I need to take care of them.”
