Miles high in the air, the scenery can take your breath away. Finnair pilot Tomi Tervo has gained a following on Instagram by sharing his amazing aerial snapshots.
To launch Finavia’s photo contest, we asked Tomi to share the stories behind some of his best photos taken from the cockpit.
”I’ve been flying for 17 years, but I still get a thrill from the moment the plane reaches the cloud top and the darkness and gray make way for light. One of the best parts of flying is that you get to see the sun even in the winter. This photo was taken on an Airbus 321 flying from Helsinki Airport to Vienna in April 2016.”
”Being a pilot is also a passion apart from being a career. One thing I never tire of is the view: the constantly changing light and weather conditions and landscapes. In this photo taken above Spain, I find the combination of light and color beautiful.”
”We were on our way to Beijing somewhere above Southern Russia, west of the Urals. We’d been flying for hours and suddenly I spotted this incredible river delta landscape below. I had to rush to get my phone out and take a photo; the result almost resembles an abstract painting.”
