The European aircraft manufacturer Airbus is testing its newest aircraft model A350 in Rovaniemi, Lapland, on Tuesday, February 2.

At Rovaniemi Airport, Airbus is validating how the A350 XWB’s Runway Overrun Prevention System (ROPS) works on a runway contaminated with natural ice. It is an industry first and brings the latest version of the A350’s ROPS system a step further for certification later this year.

Rovaniemi Airport is an excellent location for testing the modern wide-body aircraft, and there will be several take-offs and landings during the test day.

Lapland is well-known test location also for new car models and winter tyres.

The aircraft model A350 has visited the Rovaniemi Airport many times before: Finnair started operating A350 XWB's last year.

Finavia’s Helsinki Airport was the first European home airport of Airbus A350 wide-body aircraft.
