By purchasing premises from Finnair, Finavia will create preconditions for implementing the Helsinki Airport development programme. Finavia's goal is to develop Helsinki Airport's competitiveness as a leading node for transit traffic.

The transactions are related to Finnair's existing cargo terminal (to be discontinued in 2017) and the office building located next to Terminal 2 (TOKE), currently owned jointly by Finnair and Finavia.

In addition, the expiry of one hangar's land lease agreement has been rescheduled to an earlier date so that Finavia's investments in order to expand the Helsinki Airport terminal can be implemented.

The transactions support the implementation of Finavia's strategy and will secure the development opportunities of Helsinki Airport. Once the ownership arrangements have been implemented, the selection of facilities in the Helsinki Airport will be expanded. The office building and the old cargo terminal included in the transaction will transfer to Lentoasemakiinteistöt (LAK), a Finavia subsidiary.

"Our goal is to expand the property business near the airport. International airports are appealing business environments for operators in different sectors. That is why we are happy that from now on, we can offer more premises near Helsinki Airport. We are currently investigating different opportunities for developing our facility concepts near the airport", says Antti Ala-Heikkilä, managing director of LAK.
