’My duties include coordinating the security checkpoint and managing Finavia’s customer service at the airport’, Service Manager Mira Heikkilä from Jyväskylä Airport says of her job.
If necessary, customer service representatives may grab a broom handle or, say, a shovel.
‘That is very true’, Mira Heikkilä laughs. ‘Nothing is alien to us. If there is rubbish in a hallway, we will pick it up. Or we will sweep the floor if the cleaner is not present just then.
People have been known to grab a snow shovel if a storm has packed snow in front of the doors’.
Days in Jyväskylä are filled with traditional tasks too.
‘Sure, we carry out a lot of office duties also. We prepare reports for air traffic control and carry out other administrative tasks’.
Growth in the number of passengers
Jyväskylä Airport is located in the town of Tikkakoski, approximately 23 kilometres from the centre of Jyväskylä.
The terminal’s wooden structures and cladding give the building a local identity, evoking the nature in Central Finland and the long tradition of the wood processing industry. The current airport was inaugurated back in 1960.
− The facade cladding has planed, heat-treated batten, and branchless common alder panel has been used indoors. A work by Juha Petäjäniemi, a local artist, adorns the wall of the departure hall.
Last year, 55,706 passengers passed through Jyväskylä Airport in Tikkakoski, a 10.2% growth in the number of passengers.
The airport wants to maintain this trend, and Mira Heikkilä makes a clear service promise:
– Our strong goal is to have nothing but satisfied passengers leave Jyväskylä, this multi-tasker states.
